existing and future file-based media workflows get dramatic efficiency improvements and cost savings with Aspera Transport
IBC 2009, Amsterdam RAI (Hall 7 Stand G11) — 11 September 2009 — Aspera, creators of next-generation software technologies that move the world’s digital assets at maximum speed regardless of file size, transfer distance or network conditions, has announced multiple new enabling technologies and product offerings for the digital media ecosystem that will be showcased at this year’s IBC show.
Aspera is proud to announce the immediate availability of its fasp™ 2.5 high-performance file transfer environment and Aspera Console 1.4, a web-based system enabling global, file-based media production and delivery with centralised management, monitoring, control and automation of high speed file transfer workflows. With a new suite of desktop and browser-based transfer applications, enhanced automation and advanced scheduling capabilities, new user and group management functionality compatible with industry standard directories and more core technology breakthroughs including patent-pending adaptive disk rate control for optimal end-to-end throughput, fasp 2.5 delivers the next stage in the evolution of Aspera’s high performance file transfer environment and further enables a global, digital production, collaboration and distribution ecosystem.
The Aspera team will be giving show attendees a sneak peek at upcoming innovative solutions for enterprise-class file synchronisation, multi Gigabit-per-second file transfer solutions with high-performance storage from NetApp and Isilon. Also being previewed at IBC 2009 are new, easy-to-use, high-speed media transfer tools that integrate directly with industry-standard video editing software from Adobe, Apple and Avid.
The advent of digital media has led major media companies and their IT partners to design fully-integrated systems for the creation, distribution, repurposing, and archiving of their file-based media assets. Workflow experts such as Accenture, CEITON technologies, Grass Valley, IBM or Microsoft; video management, publishing and monetisation platforms such as thePlatform; and movie review and approval systems such as cineSync Pro, chose to integrate Aspera software to provide superior transport capabilities to their most demanding media customers. What’s more, a growing number of broadcasters are implementing high-speed media transfer workflows that rely on direct Aspera integration with video servers from Harris, Omneon and Quantel.
While companies like Ooyala and mPoint are already leveraging the power of cloud infrastructures and Aspera technology to provide cutting-edge services to the digital content industries, more and more media corporations are investigating the potential for efficiency gains and cost savings of the cloud. Aspera is setting new standards at IBC 2009 by unveiling a breakthrough, on-demand high-speed file transport offering for the world’s most popular Infrastructure-as-a-Service provider: Amazon Web Services. Users of Aspera On-Demand will be able to transfer files of any kind or size to and from remote AWS infrastructures at full bandwidth capacity – hundreds of times faster than conventional technologies – with the assurance that highly valuable content will be transported and stored in total security.
Aspera has now completed the acquisition of France-based Castify Networks from Omneon, Inc. Castify developed state-of-the-art, patented technologies to deliver optimal performance, with full scalability and openness to new and emerging content standards and formats. Now Aspera Europe, the Castify team will be working at integrating their key technologies – content distribution software and reliable multicast technology for satellite and IP networks – to build innovative new products that will define the next generation of content delivery solutions. Aspera is also working closely with Omneon to integrate next-generation file transport technology with their optimised content distribution system, ProCast CDN.
Finally, Aspera will be previewing its patented fasp transport technology running on the iPhone for efficient media file transfers over 3G and emerging wireless networks.
